Okay, so this post is a tad bit late, but not that late. In May 2019 I attended my commencement ceremony at Ashford University in San Diego. I decided to travel from South Korea all the way to California to experience this moment. Getting my bachelor’s degree in eMarketing was a big deal for me, and I wanted to reward myself with that experience. Unfortunately, only one of my friends who happened to be stationed in that area could attend my graduation, and no family members, but the experience was still great nonetheless. I officially completed my last class in July, and my diploma should be in the mail as I type. I was proud to see that I graduated with honor, even though when I walked across the stage I did not know of my status because I still had to finish my degree. I graduated Cum Laude, and I am super proud of myself because I know how hard that is to do while working full time, traveling, being a supervisor, and just trying to live life in general.
Attending my graduation meant that I was able to visit California and kill two birds with one stone. I flew into San Diego and then my good friend Halimah and I drove to Los Angeles and ended our trip in Sacramento. While in Los Angeles we visited Crenshaw and Slauson and was able to see Nipsey Hussle’s murals and his clothing store. That was really a surreal moment and one of the highlights of my graduation trip. Overall, this experience was amazing and graduating and earning my bachelor’s was one of my main goals when I first joined the military. It’s been nine years, and I finally accomplished that goal. I’m proud of myself, and that is a wonderful feeling.
